How to Measure For A Perfect Plus Size Pups Fit

Weigh Your Pup

Weight is an important measurement when trying to fit your dog for apparel and clothes.  Dogs can produce vast variations of weight even in their breed group.

  1. Using a household scale, place your pup on the scale and make note of the weight
  2. If you pup will not stand on the scale or is too big to place four legs on the scale, then:
    • Weigh yourself first and write your weight down
    • Pick up your pup and weigh yourself holding the pup. Write the combined weight down
    • Subtract your weight from the combined weight of you and your pup
    • You now have the weight of your pup
If you have a puppy that is still growing, then you’ll need to decide if you want the garment to still fit once he/she is full grown.  If that is the case, check for the breed or dominate mix breed category for your pup and verify the breed's full-grown weight.

    Take Measurements

The best way to measure is with a cloth or fabric measuring tape. If you do not have one, use a piece of string or yarn to measure then lay it next to a yardstick, ruler or retractable measuring tape.

For a good fit, Plus Size Pups recommends that you take and write down the following four measurements:

    1. Neck to Base of the Tail
    2. Full Girth Size
    3. Full Neck Size
    4. Across the Front of the Chest

If your dog is still a puppy yet you want the garment to fit once full grown, select the size based on the breed's full grown weight.
